Gear transmission of simplified structure

With only one pinion and one plate, this system without clutch allows a multitude of gears with the possibility of changing engaged gears. This change of gear can be mechanical, electromechanical, electromagnetic and electronically programmable. The principle of function is situated in the pinion, divided in two parts, sliding successively halfways on a grooved axis during a gear change.

During a gear change, the part not being engaged can be shifted towards the higher gear (above case) or the lower gear, the part engaged can be shifted when it is the turn of the other half of the pinion to be engaged.
